Position Title: Recreation Coordinator – Youth & Adult Sports FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: 49 Department: Parks, Recreation and Tourism Reports To: Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Approved By: The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide skilled professional recreation programming. Incumbents plan, develop, implement, and evaluate multiple recreation programs at a park/facility, or in a specialty area/program. Incumbents supervise full-time and part-time employees and volunteers. General supervision is typically provided by a Recreation Coordinator who evaluates performance based upon results achieved. GENERAL PURPOSE Plans, organizes and coordinates a comprehensive community recreation program which includes special interest classes, adult and youth sports leagues, special events and activities. This is the second of three classifications. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Supervises Recreation Programmers, part-time and volunteer staff, special interest instructors, and seasonal employees in assigned area. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Directs the activities of full-time and part-time employees and volunteers who staff programs and facilities; • Communicates and works with individuals or groups to stimulate interest and support for recreation activities; • Schedules and conducts classes and workshops in specialization areas; • Keeps financial and activity records and submits reports; • Designs and prepares flyers; • Oversees recreation activities and conducts program evaluations; • Performs and maintains web-based registration procedures; • Performs on-site participant registration for recreational activities; • Coordinates recreation staff in the development and implementation of community recreation programs; • Supervises classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in recreation programs and co-sponsored programs; • Selects, plans and implements physical activities and social interest activities; • Responds to public inquiries about recreation programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings; • Coordinates staff and facility schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel; • Coordinates sports programs, acquires coaches, assigns practice times, distributes and collects equipment and awards; • Schedule games and umpires for sports activities; • Schedules and runs various tournaments; • Recruits all part time staff, including laborers, sports officials and special event staff; • Oversees and coordinates aquatic based programs and staff; • Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering the phone, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies for activities, conducting art/crafts activities for children, making arrangements for rental and use of recreational buildings and locations, helping with setup for programs and events, etc; • Assists in the planning and management of programs and events; • Promotes interest and provides information regarding recreation programs to community leaders, recreation officials, community service groups, other Town departments and the general public; • Assists in the hiring of full time staff; • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. PERIPHERAL DUTIES • Performs other duties, which may be assigned from time to time. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in recreation or a closely related field. • Two (2) years of recreational programming experience. • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and abilities for the position.
