Hans Brinker or The Silver Skates by Mary Mapes Dodge (1932)

Hans Brinker or The Silver Skates by Mary Mapes Dodge (1932) Garden City Publishing. Recently appraised - PRICE FIRM Hans Brinker, or The Silver Skates is a novel by American author Mary Mapes Dodge, first published in 1865. The novel takes place in the Netherlands and is a colorful fictional portrait of early 19th-century Dutch life, as well as a tale of youthful honor. A very nice copy of this classic story about the young Dutch boy which popularized speed skating in the U.S. This novel is also the origin of the story about the little boy who used his finger to plug a dike, though it was not Hans Brinker and this incident was simply told as a story in the book. This has been been in the family for decades. No dustjacket is included. Beautiful pictorial front board. Top of spine is slightly worn
