Original 1930’s Watercolor Painting by Edna Way - Signed

This is an original signed Edna Martha Way watercolor easel painting/art work from Athens, OH and Vermont-based abstract artist, National Association of Women's Artists, Painters and Sculptors member, American Watercolor Society and Columbia University Art Department student, Edna Way. Her work has been exhibited at the Pennslyvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia. This piece is unique to the artist when compared with the collection of previously sold art works online due to the use of a different, brighter color palette, macro subject matter, style and international travel series provenance. Oriental Hanging Lanterns are depicted. Not a lot of women at the time of production were traveling to the various locals and producing such pieces. She was an important figure in the women's art movement. Born in 1897 in Manchester Vermont, Edna Way studied in Paris and was active at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and Vermont. The actual painting measures 17 inches wide by 24 inches in height. It is signed "WAY" 2/3 of the way down on the left side (pictured). It's probably from around ~1930's.
